Former President Donald Trump saw himself as a bully in November’s presidential election after watching Michael Bloomberg slam the stage at the Las Vegas Democratic debates.

Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender, in his new book Frankly, We Won This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost, how Trump invited reporters to watch the debate with him aboard Air Force One on February 19, 2020 as they flew back . from Trump’s rally that night in Phoenix.

“Trump then began offering his own colorful commentary: Bloomberg was smart, but not fast. Biden has had a terrible facelift. Bernie was sharp and Warren was a good debater, even if she was ugly,” Bender wrote.

“He thought Pete Buttigieg was eloquent and seemed to surprise himself by repeatedly praising the former mayor of South Bend,” Bender continued.

In an earlier interview that month, Trump asked pollster Tony Fabrizio who he was most worried about in the Democratic pack.

“Buttigieg,” replied Fabrizio.

Trump did it. “Buttigieg? The fucking guy?” Trump said. “No.”

But on the debate stage in Nevada, the former New York mayor and tech billionaire got flattened by Senator Elizabeth Warren over the non-disclosure agreements he had female staffers sign.

Bender wrote that “a clear highlight for Trump was the Bloomberg meltdown, when fellow Democrats on stage, led by Warren, grilled him about his past sexual harassment allegations and his past support for aggressive police tactics like stop-and-frisk.”

“Trump croaked at every stutter he saw on the screen,” Bender said, quoting the then-president as saying Bloomberg “stutters like Biden!”

At the end of a quick flight between Arizona and Nevada, where Trump always sleeps at his Las Vegas hotel when he campaigns out west, he expressed to his traveling press corps how he thinks the election will turn out.
