He was granted bail in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after being charged with seven offenses – including dealing in “ice”.

He was granted bail on $20,000 bail, which required him to surrender his passport, live at the same address and remain in Victoria.

Thompson joked that he got into the “ice business” years before he was arrested and charged with multiple drug-related crimes.

The court was told quantities of methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD and MDMA were found in plastic bags during a raid at Thompson’s home in Port Melbourne in January.

Some of the drugs were allegedly found in a small room protected by a keyboard and only Thompson had access to, the court heard.

Senior Constable Naomi Bourke told the court that ice pipes, resealable bags, scales and hard drives were also found at the property.

A police summary claimed Thompson’s DNA was found on a bag of MDMA and other bags containing drugs.

Thompson said outside court Tuesday that it was a “big day” and that he hoped he would “get a chance” to fight the charges, Nine news reported.

Asked by reporters if he would plead guilty, he said: ‘I have no idea.’

The former Essendon and Geelong coach held his head in his hands for much of his hearing on Tuesday, according to Fox Sports News.

Const Bourke opposed Thompson’s bail application, arguing he was a flight risk because he had access to a yacht and money.

But the AFL legend was bailed under strict conditions, including a requirement to report to police three times a week.

Thompson was interviewed by police and considered a “person of interest” prior to his arrest.

At the time of the arrest, a signed tenancy agreement was found at the Port Melbourne home, with Mr Windsor paying the AFL legend $300 a week.

Thomas Windsor, 28, who was arrested in the raid, faces a number of charges including trafficking in commercial quantities of amphetamine, ice and trafficking in ecstasy.

Details of the January raid on Thompson’s home were revealed in court this year when Thomas Windsor – the man who lived with him – applied for bail.

Windsor, 28, was arrested in the raid and faces multiple charges, including counts of trafficking in commercial quantities of amphetamine, ice and trafficking in ecstasy.

Thompson has previously refused to answer questions about why the alleged drug dealer was living in his home after the raids.

He had previously denied participation in criminal activities. The 54-year-old man is due back in court on May 25.
